#vss365 – August 2019 – #1

I’m always hunting for interesting writing prompts. So it’s with some surprise it’s taken me so long to find the very popular #vss365 challenge on Twitter. The aim. To write a daily Very Short Story in less than 280 characters, a single tweet. Yes, characters! Not words.

I’ve decided to collate them into a weekly post, because why not. The prompts themselves are seemingly random single words, the whim of that month’s challenge setter. This months fun has been organised by @LadySabrielle. I’ve taken some liberties with formatting simply because WordPress is not Twitter and to make it easier to read. Only 5 this week I turned up late.

The cover image is just going to be some random shot from the week, expect lots of nature and dogs.

Tuesday 6th August – Wildfire

In her gaze, a searing #wildfire
Hatred deep, another child’s pyre

Tears cannot quench these embers
That join the stars, that cold December

At dawn, she vows of revenge
Intent to rage till bitter end

By dusk, she walks a fire-scorched land
One she finished by her own hand

Thursday 8th August – Evaporate

As day gives way to cooler night.
Set free from my airy prison I’ll steal the light.
Within my shadowy wings the promise of such terrors.
My murky blanket muffles the killer’s footfalls.
Come the dawn I’ll escape, #evaporate back to air,
revealing only my nights work.

Friday 9th August – Glory

The scarred cruiser had made it.
Against all odds and at awful cost it hung in orbit, its fatal payload delivered.
A thousand burning ships.
The entire fleet sacrificed in one last desperate gambit.
All #glory had died at sight of that cracked planet.
A bitter victory!

Saturday 10th August – Peaks

I’m dying.
I feel it, my oxygens gone.
Frozen, I’m losing grip on the lifeline.
A stark choice to make.
To stand above these frosty #peaks and howl triumphant for all to see.
Or falter, a grim landmark for those that follow.
Sleep eternal with green boots in that hollow.
