Week 4 of participating in the very popular #vss365 challenge on Twitter. The aim. To write a daily Very Short Story in less than 280 characters, a single tweet. Yes, that’s characters! Not words.
The prompts themselves are seemingly random single words, the whim of that month’s challenge setter. This months fun has been organised by @LadySabrielle. I’ve taken some liberties with formatting simply because WordPress is not Twitter and to make it easier to read.
The cover image this week; some unusual toadstools in a clearing deep in the woods.
I have seen many a #skyline.
Skyscrapers stretched to the heavens, dark monoliths silhouetted against tangerine dusk.
The aching iridescent beauty of aurora dancing over snow-capped crags.
Mountainous sand dunes, flowing endless umber seas.
Thank god for screensavers.
“Before I knew it his passionate breath”
CRUNCH
“was on the back of my neck. His rough hands caressing“
CRUNCH
“my breasts, slowly they slid down my aching body”
CRUNCH
“Go on!”
“Father, are you eating popcorn again?”
“I must #confess, I am my child. Now, where were we?”
“Oh, what a #tangled web we weave,” said the widow, sneaking up behind her.
It made her jump.
“Thank you, I’ve been practising” she stammered.
“To deceive?” berated her tutor, plucking one of the strands.
She swallowed nervously, “Charlotte might have helped me a little”.
Wednesday 28th August – Fragile
I am #fragile, I am weak
Abhorrent, unwanted, crushed under feet
I hide in shadow, out of sight
You hear my skittering, in the night
When sirens wail, mushrooms bloom
I’ll come to you, within your tomb
A cockroach, yes. Your constant friend
I’ll be there for you at the bitter end
Thursday 29th August – Million
It’s hot. My knees ache, feet are numb. My heart is racing. Sweat stings my eyes. Waves of nausea rack my tired body. I stagger, unable to catch my breath. A thousand demons whisper insidious doubt. A #million reasons to stop. I just need to find the ONE to keep RUNNING.
Friday 30th August – Somewhere
I am nowhere, no place. A hole, a void would be something.
But this is that other place, beyond time and space, the universe’s oubliette.
Forever forgotten.
Once I was #somewhere. Before the world began to spin and I lost my twin.
Now I’m just lost, another sad sock.
Saturday 31st August – Forever
The door closes with a click.
I run to the window desperate for one last glimpse of her, but she’s gone.
I’m alone again, in an empty house, crying.
Click, she’s back, “Alright, alright I was only gone 5 minutes”.
I’m so excited, my tail is wagging. She was gone #forever.
