The Final Move

I’m always looking for interesting writing prompts and came across the Tuesday Writing Prompt Challenge organised by the folks over at Go Dog Go Cafe. This week’s prompt must include the words “winded child“. Sounds like a challenge. Be sure to pop over and have a look at the other great entries and why not consider having a go yourself.

“Are you winded, child?” he asked, mockingly.

She stared up at him. Anger flashed in her eyes and with dagger in hand, she leapt at him. A flash of steel, a whirl of fabric and with an unceremonious bump she was sat on the floor once more.

“Too predictable,” he berated, circling slowly around her.

She climbed back to her feet and patted the worst of the dust off. “Captain,” she gasped, between heavy breaths. “Is there a move you haven’t seen?”

He smiled and beckoned her to push on.

She lunged again, her blade much faster this time. He easily parried it and skilfully stepping aside, sent her crashing into the hard floor. It took her a moment to pull herself together, that one had hurt. She ran her tongue across her split lip, wiped the blood away with a finger. “I think we’re done here,” she said, limping towards the door.

“Your highness,” he said, bowing slightly. He watched as she left and shook his head. Her emotion had clearly got the better of her today. He sighed and started for the door. He didn’t get far before his trousers slid down around his ankles, sending him sprawling. Confused, he looked down at his severed belt.

She smiled a bloody grin as she heard the commotion behind her. She was fairly sure he hadn’t seen that move before.
