This writing prompt the “poisoned apple” is courtesy of Carrot Ranch’s weekly Flash Fiction Challenge. The challenge is the story must be 99 words. No more no less.
“It can’t be THE apple,” she said examining the bite mark “That would be absurd”.
“Why?” he said.
“Why?” she spluttered “Because! Because it’s myth, legend. Not to mention fresh!”.
“It’s not a normal ap…“ he started.
“Nonsense!” she cut him off. Reaching into the pit she grabbed the apple.
“Don’t“ he shouted. It was too late, she had taken a bite.
“How do you feel?” he said as she chewed the juicy apple.
Her mouth full, she mumbled, “just get back to digging”.
Moments later the spade hit something hard as behind him there was a loud thud.

Sounds like there’s already a handy grave nearby when they pass out!
