This is a short story (<1000 words) for a competition organised by Michele Sagan and Robert D. McAdams. I’ve gone with sci-fi, which seems to be my flavour of the week. This is my first attempt at injecting some humour into a story. I wouldn’t call it a knee-slapper but hopefully it at least entertains.
I should be writing horror today, but my words would have little meaning.
Instead, I’ll scroll through bitter outrage of a country that is bleeding.
I should be writing horror today, but tis hard to drown out the screaming.
When gunshots echo around another mall, live and gallantly streaming.
I should be writing horror today, but I can’t ignore this tide of feeling.
Of countless voices that rage and tweet at twilight’s last gleaming.
I should be writing horror today, but honestly what’s the point.
When those so brave, those so bright are free but to disappoint.

This is my entry to the first round of the NYC Midnight’s Flash Fiction 2019 Challenge. This is a yearly competition for writers from around the world (over 3700+ of them) to create a 1000 word short fictional story in 48 hours based on 3 random prompts – a genre, a location and an object.
| Unfortunately, the July Kickstarter campaign has been cancelled as it was fairly obvious that it would not meet its goal. There are several reasons that have been identified, that will be addressed and fear not a revamped more focussed campaign will be launched in the coming months. |
